The following is for a soprano or tenor recorder.
To play a low B note: Cover the first hole, and the back hole with the thumb.
To play a high B note: Cover the first, second, fourth and fifth holes, and the back hole halfway with the thumb.
To play a low G note: Cover the first, second, and third holes, and the back hole with the thumb.
