To play C you have to hold the thumb hole and only the second bar at the front.
To play D you have to hold the second bar only , not any other ones.

it's back hole is covered and the first,second,third,fourth,fifth holes are all covered. For the sixth hole you will see two holes u cover both it becomes a d. if you only cover the right hole then it becomes a d sharp. to play a high d sharp do the same thing except for the back hole make a high d sharp only cover half of the back hole
On a standard C recorder, close all holes apart from the one closest to the end. This is also D (an octave higher) if you are playing the first overtone.
