Interesting question.... wondering what it's doing here. That being said, my 6 year old's last name is Jouridine and we pronounce it JUR-DEEN ... u being a short U... So as in the french pronounciation of Jour (as in day). Now is THAT the correct way to pronounce it?? Who the heck knows. The owner of the name (my son's estranged father - aka sperm donor) has abandoned the kid so we can't ask him. In a moment of just had a baby glow, (and a mother who insisted I give the kid his father's last name), I signed my name on the paper to give him that last name. Regret doing that but c'est la vie. We make the best out of it and it DOES go well with his second name which I picked and we use, instead of the father's first name... which we've never used. So I said all that to say... that's how and why WE pronounce it the way we do... not knowing if that's right or wrong. Sounds good though. LOL
