How does the viola work?

You can either pluck the strings by putting your thumb on the right if the finger board and pluck the C,G,D,or A string or bow it. Bowing it is a little bit harder than plucking it. before you put your hand on the bow make a thumb bump by bending your thumb forward a little, then place your thumb by the frog (the big black thing at the end of the bow) then place the bow on any string and either push forward or pull back on the string and then place your fingers of the left hand on the string you are playing on and it makes the sound go higher A viola makes it's sound by the strings vibrating

The stringed instrument viola is used by plucking or bowing. The vibration on the strings create sound waves that resonate in the scientific term as "wind cylinder" which in this case is the inside of the viola. The "wind cylinder" is to make the sound louder.
