I suppose if you look at the mechanics of either genre you will notice that they both have similar qualitys... Such as their monotomous ostinato rhythms, which can be found in both genres of music. Another similarity is the heaviness and texture of both genres as both are often very 'busy' with different bits and bobs going on in the peice. Outside of the actual music itself, rap and rock both carry a certain stigma enforced on them by the media. The media often points the finger at both of these genres being highly influential towards teenage listeners about the use narcotics and rebellious behaviours. This is another similarity which binds rock and rap music together. As both genres lyrics often include lyrics about sex, drugs, drink, violence and partying.
