See being academically gifted is a totally different thing then being musically gifted. If you have soft, small fingers that will probably make it harder to play an Electric Guitar. That would take about six months just to get your fingers hard enough. Then after that there would probably be about six more months just to master the basics. You might consider playing a more easily strung instrument, like the acoustic guitar.
