Um...I couldn't say for sure and this discludes fugues found *within* a toccata or other piece as well as fughettas, but at least 155...I *think* about 158 but I couldn't say for certain and like I say that's omitting some which others might include, I hope you don't mind. Um, why? Because...they're awesome :D Really they're just a beautiful form of writing, one which JSB had great ability and affinity for, I mean, um, if you're good at something go for it, right?

he wrote aproximatly 1120 pieces. im not exactly sure if they are all fuges; however, that number is not counting all the framents and pieces of songs. this estimate has been made by this book

there are still new manuscripts being discovered from time to time, but around 1100-1200 pieces would be a safe assumption since his total works are really unknown.
