How do XM radios work exactly?
XM radios use signals transmitted by satellites in order to broadcast. A signal is broadcast from the ground station and sent to one of two XM satellites that then are able to broadcast the signal to all the receivers owned by XM customers on the ground. The satellites take the signal they are sent, which is basically a mass of encoded data, and descramble the audio as well as the encrypted information with it which includes such things as the song title, artist, and genre in order to send them to the personal receivers in the correct format.
