We don't exactly charge - we negotiate a rate per song, based on the format in which it will be used.

There are different rates for radio, downloads, streams, commericals, movies, television, musicals, theatre, educational, etc et etc

I suppose the short answer is that if you wrote one song that made it onto a physical CD, and that artist's project actually turned a profit, a songwriter would receive (after taxes and after everyone else gets paid) about three cents per unit sold.
