As a standard, you should change the strings on your guitar every two months or so, as the natural oils in your hands and fingers will decay the strings and deaden the sound.

It really depends upon the type of guitar (electrical, acoustic, bass, banjo, or steel) and the type of strings that you want to use. I am going to list prices of Earnie Balls since they are my favorite. The prices below are given from a low end string, if you are just beginning this will be all that you need for now, until you build a string preference. For an electrical guitar a 6 string set of Ernie Ball super-slinky nickel wound strings, (the most cost efficient) you are looking at about $5.50 for a pack of all six strings. For an acoustic guitar a 6 string set of Ernie Ball Nylon classic strings are around $5.00, I would recommend the Bronzes which start around 6.00 for a set of six. For a bass guitar a 4 string set of Ernie Ball stainless steel strings start out at $19.25 It is really easy to string a guitar yourself if you need instruction you can to to YouTube.com and search "how to string a guitar" there are many videos on there that will instruct you how. well you need to buy the string (which will vary depending on quality but should only cost £1 or £2 for an Electric Guitar- but considerably more for bass strings) To replace one string will take only a few minutes so many music shops will do it for you free of charge, and if they do charge should only ask for a few pounds/ dollars.

IT DEPENDS... I BUY REGULAR STEEL STRINGS (ELCTRIC GUITAR/ACOUSTIC) FOR $2.00, BUT THERE ARE MANY KINDS THAT MAY BE $5.00 TO $10.00. YOU MAY HAVE TO PAY A DOLLAR EXTRA TO CHANGE IT.
