According to what state you work in it varies greatly. I also want to become a music professor and plan on trying to get a job in New York. Not very much. And most schools are eliminating their music programs. The above answer is completely wrong. Teacher salaries are not based on what you teach. They are union regulated. In New York State you can easily start at $39,000 with a yearly raise and then a large pay scale raise once you get your masters degree. And no, most schools are not eliminating their music programs.
