They say Blues Music came from slave songs sang by african-american slaves before slavery was outlawed in the United States, these songs turned into folk songs among descendents of these people, and in the early 20th century around the 1920's or so Blues became the songs these people sang and wrote .based on their bleak lives.Robert johnson and blind otis lemon were credited mainly with bringing Blues to the masses.
Blues in it's current form has existed since the early 20th Century (~1910) in the South-Eastern United States from black people. White people picked it up around the late 1940's / early '50s and called it rock and roll or rhythm and blues.
Around the late 50's is where you start seeing the big names in Blues; Muddy Waters, J Lee Hooker, Otis Rush, Howlin' Wolf, BB King, etc. Around the same time Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and other hillbillies picked it up and gave a shuffle rhythm to create rockabilly/rock and roll.
Jazz is jazz, man. It can't be defined, so it probably couldn't have started. Cab Calloway is jazz just as much as Return to Forever is jazz. It's all different.
