In department stores, where there is a choice, it is safer to use the Escalators which are on open promenades, so to speak than elevators. Many women are afraid of elevators and it is not accidents they fear, but assaults. Last year a woman was raped in an elevator and the cabin was then set on fire- so it was a rape murder. a Horrible way to die like a terrorist strike. Many women try to avoid elevators when possible and strange men. Practice some form of camouflage. No point in having expensive jewels showing to attract thieves..but that is only common sense. Cell phones have added a new dimension in street tactics, perhaps they should be fitted with Red alert buttons- with a silent trace alarm for possible rapes and stalkers... This is certainly within the scope of modern electronics!
