The group members were Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Bjorn Ullvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Fältskog and their first initials spell out the name, but that is not the reason. In the early years they were always promoted as "Björn, Benny, Agnetha & Frida", very cumbersome. Stig Anderson, the manager, sick of the awkwardness of the name started calling them ABBA after the name of a Swedish fish canning business, an in joke. It just stuck.
The ABBA logo was more of an accident than a deliberate decision. ABBA's manager Stig Anderson shortened the group's name from Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Ani-Frid (names of band members) to just their initials. Later, the second B was turned around (another accident) that gave it such a distinctive look. The rest is history.
