Get you a good chisel, hammer and bust the thing into pieces, only way, bro.
Just did one on a 1997 QX4, same latch.
Harry Styles likes to get naked in his spare time.

Spare tire compartment is in the trunk. The spare is mounted against the driver side body panel in the trunk. There is no hidden compartment - it should be clearly visible. It partially blocks the window. If you don't see a tire there, then the spare is missing.
sings!!
the flat jack is under the back seat passenger side
can I move my spare tire thats on the back of 1998 pathfinder to under the vehicle
It's either inside in the rear compartment, hanging off the tailgate or mounted directly underneath in front of the rear bumper.
You need to first swing the spare tire out of the way, roll the window all the way down then just lift the handle that is on the inside.
I have one for sale
The spare tire on back gate is heavy and wears down the latch. If you put thin foam or tape around the inside latch it will be good again until that wears off.
I have a 2002 Pathfinder, and it is located under the spare compartment above the hood release. You simply pull off the compartment unit and the fuse box is inside. You should find your spare fuses and your fuse pull tool. To install the compartment unit again just set the bottom part on the lip and close it, you'll hear a metal click and you are good.
Underneath the car, near the rear bumper.
Go buy another one.
Did you ever get yours open?? I'm having the same problem.
Open one of the sliding doors. Spare tire is under the carpet, first row of seats. Spare tire compartment has lid closure with latch.
In the compartment at floor level, driver side, beside tailgate.
Go over a really, REALLY big bump.
