Altamont, near San Francisco. Notorious for the fact that the Stones hired the local Hells Angels MC as "security", and they beat some guy to death about 10 feet in front of the stage, all captured nicely on film.. This event, among others, is often mentioned as the 'end of the Hippie/Woodstock/Peace & Love" era - along with the Manson/Tate murders and the inauguration of Richard Nixon. Soon Jimi and Janis were dead, and Jim Morrison followed not long after.
