What is a CB?

CB stands for citizen band radio is in many countries, and it is a system of short-distance radio communications between individuals on a selection of 40 channels within the 27-MHz (11 m) band.

How many watts is a 200 cobra cb radio?

Four watts out of the box, which is the legal limit set for CB radios by the FCC.

What is the range of a cb radio?

In a line of sight condition about 5 to 15 miles, in hilly terrain it might be as low as a mile. CB radios come in many different power levels currently. My answer pertains to the old 27 mhz/5 watt type. The height of receiving and transmitting antennas matters most. A CB radio is a citizen’s band radio — a radio that features the 40 channels in the 27 MHz range that the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has set aside for unlicensed public use, whether personal or commercial. By FCC regulations, CB radios are limited to 4 watts of transmission power. The official FCC statement is that the average CB radio range is 1 to 5 miles (1.6 to 8 km), but the actual average range may be greater — around 3 to 6 miles (4.83 to 9.66 km), depending on several factors.

Can a CB radio pick up VHF radio signals?

No. The old Citizen's Band (CB) consists of several skinny channels between 27 and 28 MHz, and that's where the receiver part of a CB transceiver operates. "VHF" is technically the range of frequencies between 30 and 300 MHz.

Will a 27mhz cb antenna work on your uhf cb radio?

No, this is not a wise move to make. The antenna metals are not the same. you have to know that antenna metals are different within all Mhz. 2nd- The connectors are different. CB has a wider coax connector and Uhf us smaller. Radio Range/ distance will be less if you use a short wave antenna known as CB. Best to get a High wave antenna- UHF. 27 Mhz is cb radio and the waves are low and long (about 11 meters). 400-460 Mhz is UHF and the waves are high and short (about 67 centimeters). You would need a UHF radio antenna to get the best SWR. Installing a UHF antenna on a car it would require a proper uhf antenna and coax and drilling and using only a UHF Coax cable with the connector. Or buy the Uhf magnet antenna. They are hard to find in your local city and they are pricy because you cant buy them used or at cb shops. you will have to buy one online or go to a Junk yard and find a Police car that has one on top of car. You can Mod Coax cables only if its a UHF cable and antenna. Grounding a car UHF antenna in house can be difficult. Don't run ground to AC ground! you can damage radio. Run Ground wire to the dirt outside and dig a hole and fix with a little water and keep hot coax separated from ground on uhf. Best is to run this to Gutter on roof. Do not MOD CB coaxes with UHF antenna or mix with magnet antenna or CB, VHF, Marine radios. You will waste your time. 800 Mhz police antenna will be your closest match if you decide to do this. It goes by the wave and wave length. Keep Digging

Is liners legal for cb radios?

In the US at least, no, linear amps are not legal for use on CB radios. The maximum wattage permitted for AM transmission is four watts, and the maximum wattage permitted for Single Sideband is 12 watts.

Is FM legal on CB radio?

In addition to garden variety AM (double sideband, full carrier), Single Sideband may be used on CB, with full, reduced, or suppressed carrier. The purpose of these variations is to reduce interference on the CB channels, which have been jam-packed since the the 27 MHz Citizens Band was created almost 60 years ago.No. The only emission mode allowed to CB is AM voice.

Would a Car CB Radio work with handheld CB radios. I know that they have a different frequencies compared to the regular walkie talkies. Would there be a problem using handheld and car CB's together?

Look on the packaging or labeling on the hand-held. If it operates in the 27 MHz Citizens Band, then it's electrically identical to the ones in the car, and it can talk to all of them. If it operates in the 49 MHz Citizens Band, then it can't.

Can you use a cb radio antenna for am-FM radio?

Sure, you can use it; but it might not do a very good job. If you're listening to AM, you're receiving between 0.5-1.6 MHz, whereas FM is coming to you at 88-108 MHz. The CB antenna is designed to be resonant at 27 MHz.

When was the cb radio band a ham band?

That takes me back! I earned my first 'ham' operator's license in 1956, and the '11-meter' amateur band still existed at 27 MHz. But not for long after that. In 1958 the Class D CB service was moved to 27 MHz, and this band became what is now popularly known as 'CB'. There were only 23 channels at the time ... 22 from the former amateur 11-meter band, and channel 23 was shared with radio-controlled devices. Some hobbyists continue to use the designation "11 meters" to refer to the Citizens' Band and adjoining frequencies. Beginning in the 1970s, Part 95 of the Code of Federal Regulations regulated the Class D CB service, on the 27 MHz band.

What are the Operating frequency for AM and FM?

The AM radio band falls in the comparatively low frequency range of 550 to 1600 KHz while FM radio operates in the 88 to 108 MHZ range and CB operates in the relatively narrow range of 26.95 to 27.405 MHZ. Cellular telephone operates in a frequency band of 825 to 890 MHZ.

WHAT IS CB Radio?

A CB radio is a wireless transceiver that operates on the frequency band called Citizen Band, CB. This band has been reserved for the public. In some countries license is required and in some countries no license is required to operate CB radio. The maximum power limit is 5 Watts. There are 40 channels around 27 MHz in this band.
