Judging strictly by musical criteria, classic rock is far superior to modern rock; it's more melodic, complex and artistic. From a visceral standpoint, modern rock has more of a "getcha." Faster, louder, in your face. Depends on how you like your rock...well-worn or fresh! It's all rock...some great, some not. OF COURSE IT IS IT WAS THE BEST TIMES OF HISTORY AND OF THE WORDS OF ACDC FOR THISE ABOUT TO ROCK WE SALUTE YOU

Being brutally honest - YES. Music is inspired by the times. Around 1970 heavy Rock Music was relatively new, extremely creative, and with endless possibilities. However, all things eventually come to an end. The "protest" and "unpredictable world" era is gone, and the era of 70s "creative" Classic Rock is no more. You have to understand that many Classic Rock Stars are now Senior Citizens. The Old School "protest against conservative squares" musical attitude of the 60s and 70s just wouldn't work well in the 21st century. Who are you going to impress? Do you really think that Ozzy Osbourne in his seventies is going to say "Wow, I've never heard such a racket?? Today, musicians are much more limited in sound and style because Rock has already been around for many decades. Rock music is no longer the "new thing" in music. And yes, the Modern Rock can be boring at times (let's admit it). The Classic Rock Musicians of the 70s were more creative, more skilled and more talented than the Modern Musicians. It was music that you could listen to for hours and NEVER become bored. Modern Rock - No Dice. Now, the New Modern Rock music is okay but will never replace the Classic Rock of the 70s.
