They're still friends, but they're not real close. Jason said he would still support them. In an interview he said "He would be in the crowd cheering them (Metallica) on." They are still friends but its a very strained realtionship.

I would't go as far as friends, but it has gotten better. Even though "Some Kind of Monster" apparently refueled the fire, it's been a while since anything has happened between them.
