Indian music goes back dated 4000*4500 BC. During this period music was mainly based on ragas and talas. Ragas were indeed rules of singing formed over years of lengthy evolutionary process. Time to time changes were made and spiritual gurus advised and solely governed the formation of ragas. Closest synchronous formation between the vocal and instrumental playing was emphasized. Period from 14th century till 18th century was the new era of Indian Karnataka music forms. Curiosity towards Indian music by western society got an impetus after concert by Ali Akbar Khan in mid 1950's. This inspired Hippies to experiment music with Indian flavor. This gave a massive change and the period between 1961 till 1969 was period to largely publicize Indian music industry. Then fusion music with blend of Indo-western after 80's was brought in by Indian diaspora into Bollywood.
