Metallica is the best in what they... there are just a few bands that can stand next to them and to what they have achived megashit NOT being one of those bands...

Although this is simply an opinion, I'd have to say that they're one of the greatest bands ever. Dave Mustaine (founder, lead vocalist, lead/rhythm guitarist, songwriter) is a musical genius, and perhaps the most influential man in the thrash metal world. Mustaine, along with David Ellefson (bass, backing vocals) have been together (aside from a brief departure) since the 1980's, and have always released consecutive phenomenal albums, regardless of the ever-changing line-up of the rest of the band. Megadeth has gone through dozens of drummers and Guitarists, but still manages to capture that thrash feel with every album they release.

Megadeth is known for their politic and war-driven songs. There's never a dull moment when it comes to Megadeth, and regardless of much negative feedback from metal fans, I believe that they're simply perfect.

No, Megadeth is NOT death metal, as popularly perceived. Megadeth is a very political, social, and environmental band, and they have a lot to say. Megadeth is against war (Holy Wars, Ashes in Your Mouth, Architecture of Aggression), and do not much sing about death other than global governments destroying us small people, or the death of Cliff Burton--the former bassist of Metallica (In My Darkest Hour), or a dying man saying his last words (A Tout de Mond) .... very intelligent band, try reading some of their lyrics, maybe you'll all learn something.... : )

It depends what you mean as "greatest"..Because that is an opinion.

If you mean "Most popular" then it might well be.

I would probably say Metallica are quite high up there also.

ha ha ha! NO! that last comment made my day. first off metallica is not the first thrash band, listen to motorhead, venom ,and ESSPIECIALLY ANVIL'S METAL ON METAL. that's pretty thrashy. as for the greatest thrash metal band, that's a pretty hard question, but i'd go with Sodom, Kreator, and Slayer
