No, Clutch is not a Christian band. However, they do have many references to Christian beliefs. Clutch is often described as a thinking person's metal band, so it's fitting that it gives listeners plenty to debate on Blast Tyrant. Hard-core devotees spent much of last year arguing whether or not the release was meant to be a concept album, which is no shock considering characters surface repeatedly, religion is a common denominator, and songs cross-reference each other.

But in a nutshell, no. They are not a Christian band.

If by "christian band" you mean a christian rock band, then no. Clutch is classified as a hard rock band, with influences from southern rock and blues, among other things.

If you mean are any of its members christian, then yes. Neil Fallon was raised Catholic, although I've no idea if he still practices his religion.

If you listen/read the lyrics to their songs, most are dripping of religious sarcasm, and the antagonists of many of their songs are religious in nature, though they take swipes at politicians, corporations, etc.

The confusion probably arises from the fact that the band frequently uses chanting and the "Southern Baptist" or "Religious Revival" style in parts of quite a few songs, as well as lyrics that would appear to support a pro-religious viewpoint, such as "The devil tips better, but Jesus has an open bar," "Hanging with Lucifer, is never that enlightening [+/-]," and probably the most famous "The power of the holy ghost!" in the song Burning Beard. In that song, the revival style is most obvious, as Neil Fallon is basically dressed as a preacher and is looking at what appears to be a bible throughout the song. But in context, at the end of the song, the entire congregation is robots, which makes the entire thing a slam on organized religion, that is so engrained without thought behind it, that even the robots that come after humans, still go to church and see fire and brimstone sermons.

So no, they're not a Christian band based on their music and the topics they cover. If anything, they're anti organized anything of size, and perhaps a bit anarchist. And when Blast Tyrant came out, the hardcore religious folks (at least the ones who understand sarcasm and irony) were not happy at all. They quickly figured out that the evil people in many of the songs had some religious aspect to them.
