At approximately 11:15 P.M., a white, four-door Cadillac pulled up to the right side of Tupac's vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle then began to rapidly fire. Tupac was hit in the pelvis, chest, right hand, and thigh. Once paramedics and law enforcement arrived at the scene of the shooting, Tupac was rushed to University Medical Center. At the hospital, Tupac was in and out of consciousness, he was heavily sedated, was placed on respirators and ventilators, placed on life support, and eventually put under a barbiturate-induced coma. While in the critical care unit of the hospital, Tupac began to hemorrhage and stopped breathing. Doctors attempted to revive Tupac, but they could not stop the internal bleeding. Tupac's mother, Afeni, gave doctors the order to cease CPR. Tupac was pronounced dead at 4:03 P.M. on September 13, 1996. Tupac's official cause of death was noted as respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest.
