No it's not..The very First band to be called Death Metal were from Florida in the USA. They were aptly named DEATH.. Unfortunately their founder and singer Chuck Schuldiner died several years ago. This band was around about the time Metallica were first heard outside of the USA in the Mid 1980's.

There are several sub-genre's derriving from the original metal genre, including: Black Metal. Death Metal. Thrash Metal. Power Metal. Heavy Metal. Then there are some other genre's which some 'metalheads' don't think derrived from metal, but do. These include: Hardcore. Deathcore. Metalcore. Grindcore. Post-Hardcore. Screamo. Within the metal genre, "technical" death metal or "math metal" as a whole would be the most complex. Followed by progressive metal.
