Historically the illuminati disbanded over a hundred years ago, but some conspiracy theorists believe they are an alive and active part of the Freemasons society, controlling human destiny
There is *no* hard evidence of their existence since 1785. Conspiracy buffs in recent years have adopted a fictional book's claims the Illuminati still exist, as being real. There is no actual evidence of this. They will claim Masonic imagery as "Illuminati", even though the real Illuminati was not a Masonic organization. Since the Masons actually exist, this allows them to pretend the Illuminati do too. Recently they have decided that the "Okay" gesture is Illuminati, and have taken to posting images of celebrities making the "okay" gesture as proof that the celebrities are Illuminati. I just made the gesture myself, so when do I get my membership package?

No matter how many web pages they make, and no matter how many YouTube shorts with ominous music they make, the CT's can't get past the simple fact that there is *zero* evidence of the Illuminati currently existing. No one has been convicted in a court of law as being Illuminati. Claiming someone, especially a celeb, is part of a criminal conspiracy is a risky thing to do without an unlimited legal budget.

Please keep the answers page for fact-based answers, concerning the alleged "Illuminati", real history for example, and please remember no URLs or personal attacks belong here.

And please save ranting about bankers, or for that matter bakers, for questions concerning them. I don't see the word "banker" or "baker" above in the question. Simply calling bakers or bankers "The Illuminati" doesn't make them so. Neither does it prove the Illuminati are real in this day and age.

The Rothschild family is very real, and there really was an Illuminati, but it is not clear that they ever had anything to do with each other. The Rothschild family took their name from the red shield decorating the house they lived in in Franfort. They were not particularly prosperous in the 17th century, but made a moderately successful living as moneylenders (one of the few things Jews were allowed to do) during the 18th century. As revolutions and counterrevolutions swept Europe after the French Revolution, the Rothschilds managed to make some very wise choices, among others, sinking much of the hugely leveraged family fortune into backing the British in the battle against Napolean. That bet paid off big when England won, making the Rothschilds one of the wealthiest families in Europe.
