Eden by Sarah Brightman ... haunting, beautiful and providing a great first-person introspective query and acknowledgement by the singer. Since I'm heterosexual, the best way for me to explain my interpretation is to identify the characters of the song as the female (who is singing the song) and the male (who the female is singing about ... although, she is also singing about herself.)

To begin with, the female is asking, if the male ever thought of her as his best friend. I get that (the best friend part) easily ... been there & know it. The next line is the toughest one for me to explain. She asks (herself, perhaps) if she ever thought of him as taking the position (or being of the mindset) that he is not a complainer. In other words, did she ever think of him as thinking to himself (for example), "Hey, maybe I don't like something, but I'm not going to be a complainer" or "I'll accept whatever happens to me and take it like a man, no complaining from me." etc. Whatever the reason for his lack of communication, she is simply wondering if he thought about simply not complaining (or communicating about the relationship, circumstances, etc.) perhaps because to do so (especially on an emotional level) is often difficult for a male.

Then she acknowledges that she never tried to feel that vibration (the vibration of him perhaps really considering her to also be his best friend) ... perhaps he never told her or acknowledged that she was indeed, his best friend, but she never tried to sense that either. Next, she acknowledges that she never tried to reach his Eden (and here, Eden represents a world that would be ideal to her male ... a world that would maximize his happiness and content.) And this is a world she says she never tried to reach (for whatever reason.) She is saying she could have tried harder to feel, to reach. This is so sad because relationships take a lot of effort and if you really love someone, you should want to be with them in their Eden ... and if they love you, they should want to be in your Eden ... both of you trying your best to make each other as happy as possible.

Next, she asks if she ever thought of that male as her enemy. I get that ... let's say that from the female perspective, she falls in love with the male and then he does something that she interprets as him not feeling the same ... an indiscretion or an apparent violation of trust for example. Whatever it is, it hurts her, so the female is angry at the male ... so, here, she's asking honestly if she ever did think of him as her enemy. Then, she wonders if he ever thought (to himself) "Wow, she's just complaining." She may have had a few things to say to him about what he did or didn't do (that made her angry, upset, etc.) ... so did he view her as just complaining? She may have said things because she felt they were important communications in the relationship ... but did he view her as "just complaining" ... she just wonders if he ever thought that.

She again acknowledges she never tried to feel the vibration of her own (possible) thoughts about him as an enemy (did she sometimes treat him as an enemy, perhaps?) She said she never tried to feel the vibration of him possibly thinking that she was just complaining (perhaps that's something they could have discussed amicably?) Then, for the rest of the song, she again acknowledges that she never tried to reach his Eden ... and I think it haunts her (hence the solemn yet beautiful music throughout the song) ... and whether that haunts her or not, she affirms that she never tried to feel or reach his Eden ... and that is heartbreaking. Wow, what a great song!
