In music Binary, Ternary and Rondo are like the layout of a song. So say A represents a verse, B a chorus and C would represent a Bridge! Binary would be A,B (Verse, chorus) Ternary would be A,B,A (Verse, chorus, verse) Then Rondo would be A,B,A,C,A (Verse, chorus, verse, bridge, verse)

Karen Hesse chose to use free verse poetry in "Out of the Dust" to mirror the chaos and emotional turbulence experienced by the characters living during the Dust Bowl era. The fragmented structure allowed her to convey the raw emotions of loss, despair, and hope in a powerful and evocative way. Additionally, the free verse style helped to create a sense of urgency and immediacy in the storytelling.
The poem "The Walrus and the Carpenter" by Lewis Carroll is often considered a ballad because it tells a story in verse form with a repetitive structure and a simple narrative. It also features elements typical of ballads, such as a moral lesson and a sing-song quality that makes it suitable for recitation or singing.

This is a personal opinion: Every verse including nonsense verse says something about the writer, and in that sense can be serious to some extent. Sometimes the verse itself may have a 'moral' or central theme that serves to instruct. Carroll's material in Through the Looking Glass are good examples. There are lessons in "The Walrus and the Carpenter", and even in "The Jabberwocky". But there is no requirement that the author must set out to be serious when writing nonsense verse.
