I've been pampering my on-off/volume knob as long as I could get it to work. I just took mine apart after it finally quit altogether. The knob shaft engages a small wheel that has interrupted conductor on the flat face and detent divits on the circumference. The body of the wheel is plastic, and I found mine crumbled, no longer turning with the knob shaft. It's too tiny to repair, but a someone good at desoldering/soldering electronic parts to printed circuit boards could replace it... if only the part could be found!
