"Ringo Starr" sounded like a cowboy name, which suited young Richard Starkey's love of Western movies. "Ringo" came from his fondness for wearing rings. ("Why do you wear so many rings on your fingers?" "Because I can't fit them all through my nose!") "Starr" came from a promoter wanting to bill Starkey's solo drumming spot as "Starr Time".
After the Beatles, Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) continued to drum and produced his own music. Former Beatle Paul McCartney has made many appearances on Starr's albums, as has Starr on McCartney's (Starr also drummed on albums by the other two Beatles, George Harrison and John Lennon, as well as for Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono). Starr also narrated the children's television series Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends from 1984 to 1986.

On the 1973 Ringo Starr album "Ringo" all four contributed but not on the same songs. Also the two songs recorded from tapes of John supplied by Yoko Ono in 1994.
Ringo was probably the only one of the four who would have joined a reunion without hesitation. He has often expressed missing the others as friends and musicians. Although he pursued a solo and film career after the Beatles, his height of success was with the Beatles.
Ringo Starr just released a new solo album, Liverpool 8,and Paul McCartney was at the "Liverpool '08" celebration, naming Liverpool, England as the cultural center of the world. It was rumored that they stopped the release of Let It Be on DVD, because it shows the Beatles squabbling, but this is not true.
