The Twist by Chubby Checker was a number one song twice in a short period.
"In 1960, The Twist hit number one, kicking off the most successful dance craze of the 1960s. The Twist craze was so strong that the same record hit number one again in 1961 just 15 months later."
The song was originally done by Hank Ballard and the Midnighters in 1959, but this version was more popular after Chubby Checker really made the song famous.

I can speak to the first weeks of January 1942. The top three each week on Your Hit Parade were Chattanooga Choo-Choo, Blues in the Night, and Elmer's Tune as reported on the radio show Your Hit Parade. I know Choo-Choo stayed at #1,but I don't remember about the respective rankings of the other two or whether they may have shifted from week to week I was quarantined with Scarlet Fever and had little to do but listen to the radio, early War News, and each week-end the Your Hit Parade show. I was thirteen and in the eighth grade at the time, but I believe my memory is very clear on this. I have not been able to verify with a direct statement on the web, and for this reason make this posting FTR. Wade Norton, Doraville, GA
