Francis Drake was born in Tavistock, Devon in around 1540, the exact date is not in record. He went to sea at an early age. Drake died on 28 January 1596 of dysentery off the coast of Portobelo, Panama. Therefore he was circa 51 years old

well I wouldn't consider it a hobby, more as an occupation... He was a pirate, a renowned pirate who was never caught. He also played a great role in the exploration of america, for he sailed with his great amount of treasure up the pacific coast of North America.
Sir Francis Drake sailed around the world from 1577 to 1580. After that he went on naval missions for England against the Spanish. Sir Francis Drake also used his ships for carrying slaves to Europe. He found that you could sail round the bottom of south America. He was also the second person to sail around the world.
