One of the first instances of him wearing it was during the Jacksons Triumph tour in 1981, he wore it on his left hand and only briefly, he wore it again in 1983 at Motown 25. In 1984 during the Jackson Victory tour he switched to wearing it on his right hand and wore it frequently through out the shows.
Well, Michael started wearing the glove as early as the late 1970's during The Jacksons' Destiny Tour, it just happened to become popular in the 80's, when he was most popular. The real reason that he started wearing it in the first place was to hide a patch of vitilago that appeared on his hand. After the vitilago completely took over his body, the only times whenever MJ would wear the glove was whenever he performed Billie Jean
