It is a matter of opinion as to who the best composer ever is, but the key point is that it is a matter of opinion.

Anyone can talk at length about why their favourite composer is the greatest composer of all-time, but there is bound to be someone who will be able to offer a counter-argument as to why their favourite composer is better. Yes, you could take some sort of poll or survey as to what everyone's favourite composer was and then determine who the most popular one is, but that wouldn't make them the greatest.

Mozart was a brilliant composer, but my advice is to listen to some of his works and see what you think. Then listen to other composers' works and then come to your own conclusion.

It's not a matter of opinion, and saying so over and over again still will not change that fact. It's not about favorites or most popular. If it is all opinion, then you could not argue if someone said Lady Gaga is better than Bach, and that would be a ridiculous claim.

There is no counter-argument to the claim that Beethoven or Bach were the greatest composers, or at least not one that makes sense or stands up to intellectual scrutiny. So I'm not sure why this discussion keeps going on and on. Mozart was among the greatest of all time, but he was not the greatest. That's it.

No, he was a Classical era composer. His late works, like the late works of Haydn, showed some Romantic spirit (his last Symphony "Jupiter" influenced many Romantic composers), but he never crossed the line into Romanticism the way Beethoven and others did.

Why is Mozart considered the greatest musical genius? It is hard for us to understand in our current age what is so spectacular about Mozart's music. I would argue this is due to the fact that we have drifted away from counterpoint and harmony. During the classical era it was not so important if you created one good melody, rather that you created 4 or more melodies that worked together and formed a super-melody by working collectively, which is counterpoint. Mozart was such a genius at this that in boggles the mind while listening to his pieces. This is the main reason he is considered the greatest musical genius among many other impossible feats that he accomplished; such as writing 600 compositions, all of which are compromised of 3 movements. In layman terms he wrote 1,800 songs. This was done in 30 years. Thus he wrote 60 songs a year, 5 a month.
