By the time Nirvana's Nevermind came out (1991), most people had switched from cassettes (tapes) to CDs, and almost nobody used vinyl records anymore. The golden age of the CD began in like, 1989 to 1990.

Vinyl copies of Nevermind may well have been produced, as some people (mostly DJs) still use them. But I would assume the album was most widely released on CD, since CDs are what everybody was using in 1991.
