The Fifth Symphone was written between the years 1804 and 1808. When Beethoven wrote the Fifth Symphony, he was beginning to feel the effects of tinnitus. Letters from Beethoven to his friends in 1801 indicate he had begun experiencing ringing (tinnitus) and deafness in his ears for at least the previous three years, since around 1797 - 1798.
Fur Elise, a short piano piece in A minor by Beethoven, was composed beetween 1810 and 1812. Beethoven began to lose his hearing from c. 1795 and by c. 1819 he was totally deaf. Some sources put his complete deafness even earlier, around 1814, and therefore, when composing For Elise, he was at least partially deaf. Beethoven died on March 26, 1827.
