It is difficult to know, because reports about the various family members are only now being made public. Some reporters are now saying that drug abuse seems to be a problem for at least two of her siblings (Michael and Gary); addiction can make any relationship complicated, and given Whitney's own struggles with drugs, it seems the family exhibited signs of being quite dysfunctional. That is not to say that Whitney disliked her brother and step-brother, or didn't get along with them; but there is evidence that drugs affected how close they were (or could have been).
