Pete Howland is my grandfather and yes he was the bass player for The Righteous Brothers. He was living in Prescott AZ and unfortunately passed away on February 27th this year. I showed him this question and the top answer to it probably close to ten years ago now and he was thrilled, he thought it was so cool that people online were asking about him and that Bill said to say hello. He was a pretty introverted guy but I know he appreciated that everyone was thinking about him and wanted to contact him. He was quite the character and definitely will be missed by anyone that had the opportunity to know him over the course of his long and interesting life. Here’s a photo of the band, Pete’s on the far right.

I asked Bill Medley that question in Branson Missouri in 2007. Bill was signing his CD's, along with Paul Revere (of "Paul Revere and the Raiders"), for people who had purchased their CDs. Bill kept looking down, but suddenly looked up at me and said: "Oh! Peter!" He went on to say that Peter was indeed the base player on "You've lost that lovin' feeling". The reason I asked was that Peter Howland was my boss at Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, California. I call him Pete. I have lost track of Pete.

My wife and I went back to Branson in August 2009, and I bought Bill's latest CD. While getting it autographed, I reminded Bill of our discussion about Pete Howland. Bill again reiterated that Peter was the base player on "You've lost that lovin' feeling" and he also said Pete was the best musician he ever met, and that he was playing base on many of their early records, specifically "Little, Latin Lupe Lou" We had our picture taken with Bill and Paul Revere. Bill told me to say Hello to Pete if I contact him.
