Being art, it is interpretive, but if you watch the video along with listening to the song you can see that the crowd is phasing back an forth from people to snarling demons. The song is about the emotional pain of living for someone else and up to their expectations. Whether that someone is a loved one, a friend, or your fans. She feels uncertain about her real world because she can't ever be sure who is a true friend and who is a tagalong just trying to placate her with lies. She can't even be sure of her closest allies as seen at the end of the video where her bandmate undergoes the demonic morph momentarily. The song could be viewed as a declaration of rebellion against being manipulated. "Going under" refers to allowing herself to be directed and accepting the views and demands of those arround her.
That would be my interpretation.
The meaning of the song Going Under by Evanescence means that after being brought to life and leaving the past in the past thanks to someone special to her the person who finally helped her with her depression either left her alone and lost or disappointed her greatly so she just doesn't want to deal with living any more if she is going to keep getting hurt and she is ready to die once again even if she isn't going to really kill herself she is going to feel dead kind of like a zombie!!!!!
Going Under is one of Evanescence's particularly vague songs, one of the ones that could mean just about anything and is open to interpretation. Personally, I feel that it's about the aftermath of Stockholm Syndrome, sort of like her other song Snow White Queen.
