There are only really 4 main concepts....pitch, dynamics(loudness or softness), tone color, and duration.Although....There are really 6 concepts of music PITCH, DYNAMICS + EXPRESSIVE TECHNIQUES, TONE COLOUR, DURATION, STRUCTURE and finally TEXTURE.
I think the general consensus is that our concepts of scales and notes originated in ancient Greece.
Duke Ellington incorporated one main concept in all of his music, including Searchin. He elevated jazz music into an art form by his writings.
The beats in music are counted in maths. Also, there are many patterns and structures (not obvious at first) that are standard in a great deal of music, and they are determined with numbers. MAth is music, music is math: they both have counting, fractions(4/4 time,or meter), and numbers in them-I like to call music the sounds or the soundings of Math(ematics) For the most part, if one wants to get a great grip on music, understanding the mathematical concepts of it will make the musical concepts a piece of cake-in a deep manor, to understand music theory, you need to understand its mathematics to a massively extreme extent(you cant really understand music, until you can understand its math)-music is more mathematical than music itself-Again, i like to call music: the sounds of math-the notation themselves are symbols of mathematics Hope this helps-to get more info on this i insist in drum instructer
There are a variety of basic structural concepts in the element form of music. Some of these include melody, rhythm, harmony, tempo, and timbre.

Music theory course are sort of like the methodology and history of music and the different aspects of music. You will not learn about specific musicians but rather the different concepts of music.
The two main concepts associated with Baroque music are basso continuo and the doctrine of the affections. These were used to create elaborate and emotional musical genres such as opera, cantata, and concerto.
