The tuba is the only prominent western instrument that comes to mind.

In non-western music, there are the:

Biwa, a short-necked, fretted Japanese lute, and the

Pipa, a plucked Chinese lute with a pear-shaped body. Also related is Bipa, the Korean variant of the Biwa and Pipa; the Bipa is not widely played any longer due to the fact that there are no remaining Bipa players.

It's notable that the biwa and pipa are very closely related variants of one another.
