What are the downfalls of love?

If by "love" you actually mean infatuation, the feelings one gets when you first meet and connect with someone, those feelings are based on chemical and hormonal reactions that can last at the maximum about 18 months. Some people are addicted to those feelings, which is why they go from person to person, looking for the next high. This type of relationship might involve "lust" and some say "lust wants" while "love gives." If by "love" you mean the kind that is important enough to actually make a lifetime commitment, in most cultures that commitment is formalized before friend and family through marriage. There are some neat physiological things happening in those relationships that might be more fulfilling in the long run. One of the most fascinating is how the brains begin to softwire to line up with each other's, in some many ways becoming "one" in more than a sexual way. All kinds of complex relationship building behaviors are involved, some of which are sacrificial. Some might consider that a downfall, but statistics indicate that all of these together result in a much better chance of well-being for kids, adolescents, women and men.
