Screamo is the post-hardcore influenced sub-genre of emo.
People listen to different types of music for different reasons. listening to post-hardcore isn't going to make you a "bad" person as the majority of people think. For most, listening to this genre of music helps relieve stress or is used as a coping method. "Screamo" may not sound like any other type of music to the average person but people listen to it for the same reasons anybody would listen to other genres. Its more than screaming or grunting, the lyrics are very meaningful and the artists are really caring. There are no"effects"other than possibly making someone a stronger person and helping them through tough times. Its also just an awesome genre. Go listen to Bring Me The Horizon dude.
