Some high-voltage rectifier tubes were manufactured at one time containing Mercury vapor.

When operating, they glowed a bright blue.

Aside from those few, radio tubes are also referred to as "vacuum tubes", and there's a good

reason for that: They operate under high vacuum, with no gas or anything else inside. Just as

in an incandescent light bulb, if a bit of air leaks in, the filament soon fails, and the tube is dead.
