Timing on the 1990 4.0L / inline 6-cylinder engines are set & locked at factory and can only be changed by modifying parts... and modifying the parts is a BAD idea since you are masking a problem rather than solving it. You'll end up with a worse issue when you are done.
If you do have a timing issue it is either a stretched timing chain or sensor related.
Timing is controlled by the computer and is not adjustable. Computer timing is determined by finding TDC (top dead center) with the CKS (Crankshaft position sensor) and CPS (camshaft position sensor) but when either goes out you will generally have an engine that stalls intermittently or a 'no-start' condition.
If you are having trouble diagnosing the issues you can use the diagnostic help at:

Timing on 1996 and newer OBD-II vehicles is completely controlled by the engine computers and there are no adjustments possible without a Dealership or Auto Service Center DRB-III Scan Tool.
1996 and newer OBD-II Jeeps have no adjustments for timing. The Powertrain Control Module Computer Monitors and controls the timing.
Look for the answer online at autozone ,under repair info.
As a rule of thumb a timing change needs replaced every 100000 miles, or when you hit the timing marks with a timing light and see a lot of jump and have ruled out other posibilities related to ignition.
A 1998 Jeep Cherokee has disc brakes in the front.
Will bolt up, but will not shift. The 1998 is controlled differently by the computer.
They SHOULD work. I'm running 235 75/15 on my 1997 GC and they work just fine. Although 1998 is a slightly modified body style from mine, I believe the Chrysler Specs did offer them as an option.
no timing spec at all due to used timing chain.
A 1998 Jeep Cherokee uses R134a.
This vehicle has a timing chain.
