Kiss were arguably the first, possibly Van Halen or even Def Leppard. However most people would agree that Motley Crue were one of the first to bring everything together.

Stryper will take credit for the first 'god metal' band but there is never a clear answer to these types of questions I remember Stryper in the 80's and they could scream as good as any contemporary metal band. Another band I never saw was called Petra from around the same time.
