Like any other thing in life I think it has more to do with mindset, than what kind of degree you have. If you concider yourself to be a "Music Producer", then who has the right to say that you are not? In terms of knowledge I think it´s wise to learn a lot of different things, rather than trying to get really good on just one or two things. personally I have studied piano, violin, bass, musical theory, syntheziser programming and lots more. I have also played with different kind of orchestras and done some live mixing. Well so whats my point? Maybe "Music Producer" is one of those professions where you rather not know how difficult it is before you start to learn, because if you did know how much knowledge it takes to produce a good piece of quality music, then you would never begin ;) So just get on it! And keep an open mind, because in music anything is ok.
