Disco has it's cultural origins in the music of the late 60's early 70's by the Mid 70's(beginning in 1974 in this case) it began to hit the mainstream as a happening new music and grew even more when in December of 1977 the movie Saturday night fever was released and launched Disco into the stratosphere creating a climate where many artist who were not Disco artist beforehand started to make Disco records during 1978 and 1979 this than fostered a resentment among certain segment of American society which brought about a backlash which lead to Disco demolition night in July of 1979 in Comiskey baseball park where people chanted the the slogan "Disco sucks "and destroyed Disco records this was the action of a vocal minority who did not like Disco music for various reasons some of it was racism ,homophobia but also artistic reasons as well but none the less it was a major influence on the decline of Disco for the rest of 79 and 1980 where Disco became less and less popular though it should be noted by that time Disco was popular for nearly 5 years along with changing musical trends such as New Wave made the Disco era come to a close completely by the time 1981 rolled around.. The Disco Era can be explained as being during the years of 1974-1980 with the peak time of popularity being 1978- summer of 1979
