Francis Drake, the English sea captain and explorer, lived in the 16th century and is not alive today. He was born in Tavistock, Devon, England, and spent much of his life at sea. Drake is best known for his circumnavigation of the globe and his role in the defeat of the Spanish Armada. His estate, known as Buckland Abbey, is located in Devon and is now a National Trust property.
Sir Francis Drake was married to Mary Newman from 1569 to 1581. She died twelve years later. He married Elizabeth Sydenham in 1585 and was married to her until his death. Sir Francis Drake had no children by either marriage.
