Do you mean forms of recorded music? Primarily FM radio, LP records and cassettes. 45 rpm singles were still around, but declining in popularity. 8-track tape players disappeared rapidly as cassettes took over.

Recording technology advanced enormously between 1968 and 1973, as multi-track studios and signal processing became more sophisticated. This not only raised the production quality of studio recordings, it also inspired a whole generation of artists to use the studio in new ways.

Do you mean styles of music? Classical, rock, soul/R&B/funk, jazz, disco. Rock was still guitar-oriented, for the most part. Progressive rock reached its peak. Punk did not appear until late in the decade and New Wave appeared in the '80s. R&B and soul was in a "golden age" with a wide variety of artists enjoying crossover success. In jazz, the bebop era had drawn to a close and fusion was the most successful style. Disco borrowed heavily from soul/R&B/funk--it still had string arrangements and relatively slow dance tempos (that would all change with Hi-NRG in the early '80s, which would lead to house...).
