Go to a pet store. Buy a nice, big cage. Get a wheel WITHOUT spaces between the bars. a rodent could get their foot/tail stuck between the bars and get it ripped off. Also, buy mixed food with sunflower seeds and bedding. Don't give them a lot of sunflower seeds because it will cause them to grow overly fat. DO NOT GET WOODCHIPS FOR BEDDING! A rodent can get bad splinters too. Also, DON'T USE PEBBLES AS BEDDING!!!! One of my customers used pebbles as bedding, and the poor hamster ended up choking on one. use a nice, soft material. If you can't get any good bedding, you could use newspaper. BUT ONLY AS A LAST RESORT!!!! Don't forget wooden chew toys. A rodent has to chew on something, or else their teeth will grow too long and they'll starve because they can't eat their food. Buy a bowl for food and water. Keep these bowls full all the time. Clean out their cage every week, (including their food and water dish bowls,) or else maggots could end up living with your pet. Also, buy a mesh cover if you're buying a glass cage. If you just use a plank of wood, your pet will die from lack of air. Use ONLY mesh for a cover to a glass cage. If you are buying one of those plastic cages, look for holes every day. Rodents love to chew on plastic and can get out through the holes they make. DO not use tape to cover the holes up. You could place something in front of the hole so they can't get back at it. Also, get a pet the same species and sex. Rodents love companions and can get very lonely if they don't have someone to play with. DO NOT PAIR UP TWO MALES!!!! They may kill each other for territory. Go to A Z Pet & Ponds. That place may be a little bit more expencive than others, but they have everything you need and they actually take great care of their animals. (Even their fish!) So, tell me how it goes!! ^_^
